Our history begins with Nankai alumni in New York and continues through generations of gathering, service, professional exchange, and cultural life. The association was formally incorporated in New York in 2001.
On April 3, Nankai alumni on the East Coast welcomed President Zhang Boling in New York and held a meeting of the Nankai alumni branch in the United States. This early gathering established a New York tradition of connection.
On June 9, more than 70 Nankai alumni gathered in New York to celebrate President Zhang Boling’s seventieth birthday. The gathering endorsed the establishment of a Nankai alumni association in the United States, with Meng Zhi selected as president.
Historical organization records document the leadership of Fan Shikui and Xiao Qingfu. In decades with limited records, alumni maintained personal ties and organizational continuity.
Building on the alumni tradition that began in 1946, the New York Nankai Alumni Association was formally incorporated in New York in 2001, creating a durable legal and organizational foundation for future generations.
Leadership records from this period reflect an expanding focus on institutional memory, clearer responsibilities, and the preservation of alumni history.
During this period the organization developed under the name Nankai Alumni Association in New York, laying groundwork for renewed programming, a younger network, and more systematic community engagement.
New boards and executive leadership strengthened the association’s capacity. In 2024, Zheng Hezhong became Executive President and Liao Guojuan became Chair of the Board; a year-end gathering honored the Nankai school system’s 120th anniversary and Nankai University’s 105th anniversary.
More than 140 alumni and guests from the United States, China, Canada, and other communities gathered at the Yale Club of New York for talks and forums spanning scholarship, entrepreneurship, finance, and careers.
On October 3, 2026, NKAANY plans to hold its 80th-anniversary annual meeting. The occasion will bring alumni together to reflect on a shared inheritance and continue building the next chapter.
